Overview of Roborock

Roborock

Roborock knows a thing or two about vacuuming and mopping, as its excellent range of robot vacuum cleaners shows. With the Roborock Dyad, the company has put all those past learnings into a cordless hard floor cleaner. Offering the ability to vacuum and mop at the same time, it can clean hard floors fast and efficiently to get them back to their best. It struggles a little with bigger debris, and households with furry friends may want to vacuum up pet hair first – but in terms of quality and convenience, this cordless cleaner is hard to beat.

Pros

  • Efficient mopping and cleaning
  • Clever kickstand
  • Smart Auto mode

Cons

  • Hair can clog rollers
  • Loud

Roborock is best known for its line of robot vacuum cleaners, but has recently started to make a move into traditional cleaning appliances with the likes of its H7 vacuum cleaner. Here, we have a model that combines mopping and vacuuming: the Roborock Dyad hard floor cleaner.

Pull out the dirty water tank, and it’s easy to pull apart to get access to the internal filter. It’s here that you’ll find any solid mess, which you can empty into your regular bin. Dirty water can be poured into the sink and the tank rinsed out. There’s a secondary filter on top, which should be cleaned regularly and left to dry.

Roborock Product Review

Roborock has rapidly become one of our favourite robot vacuum cleaner brands, with some of the best navigation and performance across its range. At CES 2021, the company launched its smartest mop and vacuum cleaner yet, the Roborock S7, so we sat down with the company to get a bit more information on the product and to find out what’s in store for it in the future.

“Looking into what our customers say about us, mopping is a really important feature and they like to mop and vacuum at the same time, ” says Andy Knight, global head of brand at Roborock. “People say that [robot mops] aren’t super effective.”

That’s true: the current mopping system on the Roborock S5 Max and S6 MaxV, uses a pump to push water over a microfibre cloth, which cleans by pressing down on the cloth and wiping as the cleaner moves. It can give good results on general everyday stains, but doesn’t work well on tougher stains that need agitation.

S6 MaxV True Vision. Smarter Action

Roborock

There’s a reason all mammals have two eyes – stereoscopic vision means depth perception. Using dual cameras, MaxV not only sees obstacles in its path. It accurately estimates their location and size and reroutes its course around them. All in the blink of an eye. Equipped with infra-red imaging, it can also see in the dark. Combined with Roborock’s renowned PreciSense

ReactiveAI is powered by a Qualcomm® APQ8053 processor chip, which performs 50% better than the one found in the S6, driving a Tensorflow convolutional neural network employing the latest deep learning architecture. It has been trained on tens of thousands of real-world images, so it can recognize and avoid common home hazards that may trip up other robots. From stray shoes to pedestals, to cables, and more. Even pet waste.

Depth perception means MaxV avoids more than what it recognizes. Any object – down to as small as 5cm (2in) wide, and 3cm (1.1in) tall – can be seen and bypassed. It’ll safely work its way around forgotten toys, pet bowls, misplaced cups of morning coffee. Ideal for busy homes.

When it comes to a camera in the home, privacy and security are critical. Every image ReactiveAI processes is captured and deleted in an instant.1 Not only that, S6 MaxV is certified by TUV Rheinland as a safe smart home product and keeps your data safe and secure.

The strongest fan in a Roborock vacuum takes a bow. This 2500Pa3 HyperForceTM stormer is 25% more powerful than in the Roborock S6, giving MaxV the grunt to better capture fine dust from floors and reach deeper into carpets.

S7+ Sonic Mopping. Mop Lifting. Auto Emptying.

Roborock

Experience robot mopping like never before, with VibraRise sonic vibration technology that scrubs your floors up to 3,000 times per minute.

Got carpets? Like freshly mopped floors? Perfect. Intelligent mop lifting means when a carpet is detected, the mop is lifted out of the way2. Now you can get mopped floors and vacuumed carpets in one single clean3.

Get all this cleaning power, but not all the emptying. Able to hold up to six weeks of dust, it makes keeping your floors clean easier than ever.

Keep allergens locked up with an onboard filtration system that captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns6. When it’s time to empty, a swift pull of the dustbag seals it shut, ready for instant disposal.

S7 MaxV Ultra Everything Made Easy

Roborock

Vacuum more. Mop more. While emptying less, cleaning less, and doing less. Roborock S7 MaxV, combined with the Empty Wash Fill Dock, unleashes a new level of floor cleaning automation.

Using your furniture, S7 MaxV automatically recognizes bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, and bathrooms and will recommend an ideal cleaning order based on room type. That way, your bedrooms might get cleaned first, but your bathrooms will always be cleaned last. As it cleans, suction power and scrub intensity are automatically adjusted for maximum effectiveness in each room.

It can’t be said enough that privacy and security are critical when you have a camera roaming your home. That is why for the purposes of obstacle avoidance, ReactiveAI 2.0 does not save a single image. No images saved means no images to lose

S5 max every day mopping made easy

Roborock

Treat yourself to crisp, just-mopped floors every day with S5 Max. Engineered for a seamless automated mopping, it has a super-sized water tank, precision water control, virtual no-mop zones, and more. Combined with precision laser mapping, advanced navigation, and intense vacuum suction, it makes spotless floors easier than ever. All you need to do is set it and get on with living.

A huge 290ml water tank. Enough to clean a 65sqm (700sqft) apartment more than 3-times or a 200sqm (2600sqft) home in one go1. With a brand-new ultra-precise peristaltic pump, as used in hospital IV drips, tested for over 1500 hours of use. Now all you need to do to mop every day is fill up the tank and set a schedule.

From the app, choose the right water flow for any floor type, low-flow on stone, to high-flow for grimy kitchens. When mopping starts, it pumps extra water to wet the mop. If cleaning small areas, it turns off the water where it’s already been. And when it’s done, it shuts the water off allowing the mop to start drying as it returns to the dock.

No one wants their carpets mopped. Put a stop to that with virtual no-mop zones and barriers. Place them on any carpets and block off carpeted rooms, so you can mop without worry. Take off the mop unit and no-mop barriers disappear, giving S5 Max free rein to vacuum your entire home. Use no-mop zones and barriers with no-go zones and barriers for total control over where your S5 Max goes.

Make morning messes one less thing to worry about. Sweep crumbs and coffee grounds to the floor and head out the door. Set S5 Max to clean up when you’re gone and it can head straight to the kitchen and start a combined vacuum and mop to leave your floors spotless. Use no-mop zones, and it’ll even navigate around any carpets you’ve got along the way.

Who Is roborock for?

Roborock

If you’ve ever watched a robot vacuum maneuvering around a room, you’ve probably wondered how it works. At times these machines appear to have a mind of their own and, in a way, they do. So what does go on in their robotic minds? How do robot vacuums do the things they do?

Before a robot vacuum can do anything, it needs to understand its world. Much like a person uses their senses to gather information about their surroundings, a robot vacuum uses their sensors to “see” what is around them.

Obstacle sensors scan the area with high-precision lasers, calculating distance to potential impediments. Once the Roborock S5 identifies a nearby obstacle, it will slow down to avoid causing damage to walls or furniture. The obstacle sensor works in unison with the bumper. This part of the Roborock vacuum has a pressure sensor that helps the S5 define exactly where obstacles are.

How Does roborock Work?

Roborock

With the use of its sensors and complex algorithms, a robot vacuum can create a virtual map of the space around it. The Roborock S5 uses its laser, along with the SLAM algorithm, to navigate. SLAM is a complex robot mapping process that allows the machine to create a map while simultaneously figuring out where it is located within that space.

Using the map it creates, the Roborock vacuum begins by cleaning the border of the room. Next, the Roborock S5 works through the center of the space in an s-shaped pattern. This is a much more thorough and efficient approach than random bumping or relying on a zig-zag pattern.

The Roborock vacuum’s mapping system allows it to divide large areas into virtual chunks for better performance. Because the Roborock S5 tracks its cleaning route on the virtual map it creates, the unit is able to know when every area has been cleaned. Once it establishes that the job is done, it navigates itself to the charging station.

Roborock Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Roborock

Quick update now having it for a few weeks. The customizable room settings is an awesome feature. Just want a deep clean mop in the kitchen but still do a full vacuum of the dinning room all on the same schedule works like a champ. The battery life has also not been an issue as I had feared it still seems to burn more than my S5 but it’s getting the job done in one go and it’s mopping. It is so nice to have a mopped floor every day in the heavy travelled areas of the house. The reduction of dust and pollen is impressive.

Got the robot in on Saturday, I was upgrading from an S5 regular (non-max). Got it all set up and my wife wanted me to hide it in the laundry room rather than out in the main part of the house. It did its initial sweep (pun intended) on the balanced vacuum only setting and while it wasn’t fully charged it got about 2/3rrd of the house done, (approx 2500 sq feet) then it went back and charged and then a few hours later it popped out to complete the job. The charging seemed to be rather slower than I anticipated and the burn on the battery seemed a bit faster than my old S5, I am still gonna watch it.

On Sunday I tested out the Mop and I was really impressed. Make sure you have the carpet setting to Rise in the settings otherwise it will just mop on your carpet. The pad pulls up enough for most my rugs in the house, it still might slightly touch but its not actively engaging the mopping function so it doesn’t leave really any water behind. Certainly less than a kid coming in from the pool or when exiting a shower not yet fully dried. It also isn’t lingering over a spot as it moves so I don’t know how much of a issue this might be. Your mileage might very but if the carpet is close I would test it out.

Today is Monday and first day of scheduled cleanings, first thing in the morning I filled up the water basin (I am using distilled water, just don’t want any small particulates to get into the water system) and got the pad wet. Then opened the door (remember its hidden away in the laundry room).
